Members of PMG's diving team were recently presented a Safety Excellence Award in recognition of their outstanding safety record for HPX3 diving related activities as part of the HPX3 pile inspection and dive support contract for Bechtel in Hay Point.
Diving is considered by Bechtel the riskiest activity on the project and PMG continues to demonstrate excellent safety management and performance. This award follows on from verbal recognition from BMA given to the crew onboard MV Investigator during a safety audit performed by BMA during the last campaign.
Dive team members receiving certificates of recognition included Ashley Bean, Craig Doran, Ben Fusco, Andy Green, Murray Redman and Martin Rigby.

The 2012 Mission River Bridge campaign is progressing well, with 20% of the work now complete. Works include:

Cleaning and inspection, to various levels, of designated piles.
Structural and non-structural underwater welding repairs to piles.
Upgrading of CP system including replacement of existing anodes and installation of reference cells.
Use and installation of Denso products to further protect piles.
Inspection techniques used include visual inspection, CCTV inspection, digital still photographs, ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurement, cathodic potential (CP) measurements and magnetic particle inspection (MPI).

The diving work is conducted from a purpose-built platform on Barge PMG1. A predator net protects the divers from the curious Weipa crocodiles and sharks.

Recently PMG was called upon by Qld Transport to undertake repairs to the Brampton Island jetty which had been damaged by Cyclone Ului which passed through the Whitsunday Islands in March 2010. The cyclone had washed away the earthworks and armour rock protection supporting the jetty abutment and had underscored the disused concrete barge ramp situated alongside.Damage to the jetty itself was limited to that caused as a direct result of erosion to the earthworks. The lack of damage sustained to the jetty structure itself was an indication of the quality work carried out by Pacific Marine Group when the jetty was refurbished in 2008.The repair works entailed the following: bull; Demolition of the old concrete barge ramp, bull; Barge in approximately 1500tonnes of fill and armour rock material bull; Place and compact the fill and armour rock to reinstate the eroded earthworks bull; Form up and pour a new 50mpa concrete abutment bull; Reinstate the timber jetty span and repair the damaged aluminium balustrade. bull; Form up and pour a new concrete slab adjoining the jetty approach bull; Replace the aluminium balustrade panels to the approach slab. PMG put a small team together who had the works completed in four weeks during June 2010. The use on site of the crane barge quot;Sheerlegs quot; and the support provided by the quot;AR Ford quot; and the barge quot;D10 quot; were crucial to the successful completion of the project.
