Recently one of the two power cables providing energy to Magnetic Island failed and Pacific Marine Group was engaged by Energy Queensland to undertake emergency works to identify the fault and then install a new 850m section of subsea power cable deployed from one of our construction barges using a planned positioning and control system. This involved a combination of Dive, Marine and Construction crews working with Ergon Technicians to safely install the new cable in controlled manner through high environmental value reef areas. We are now undertaking splicing works with Ergon over water in preparation for Magnetic Island’s peak load season and have designed for installation a new cable and small pipeline anchoring system to secure shallow reef installations from movement and damage in cyclone storm surge events.
