Whitsundays Moorings Campaign

We’ve recently completed installation of 30 of our Environmentally Friendly Moorings (Grouted Screw Moorings) in the Whitsunday Islands for our very appreciated longstanding client Department of Environment and Science.

The installation campaign was completed from our 40m tug PMG Emerald, which was set up specifically for the task with a stern mounted hydraulic crane, decompression chamber, dive control containers and dive spreads, and our hydraulic underwater mooring machine. This large vessel was useful in accommodating our large team which included 7 marine crew, 6 divers, a fitter and onboard full time Project Manager. We also had onboard a client representative for a few days each week and the client assisted us with many logistical challenges which was appreciated.

The campaign itself was a bit more challenging than usual with such a large vessel, and moorings being required to be installed in depths of up to 23m. For this reason all diving was completed using Nitrox breathing gas, which was generated onboard using dedicated Nitrox generating equipment.

The job went very well and we’ve recently been awarded an additional 10 moorings to be installed in the southern GBR region, which will be completed later in the year.
