PMG representatives have recently returned to PNG to attend the official opening ceremony of the new Alotau Provincial Wharf constructed by PMG. The project is an initiative of the PNG Climate Change Development Authority which has focussed on constructing climate change resistant infrastructure. Funding was provided by the Asian Development Bank and DFAT for the project. Our CEO Kevin Chard and Project Manager Eddie McGovern represented PMG at the event, which was also attended by Papua New Guinea’s Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, together with ADB Country Director for Papua New Guinea David Hill and Australian High Commission's Minister Counsellor Paul Lehmann, along with many other dignitaries. The ceremony was a very passionate affair attended by many hundreds of invited guests and locals, and involved a fleet sailpast, traditional dancing, ribbon-cutting and a tour of the completed wharf. It was very clear to PMG that this piece of infrastructure is immensely important to and appreciated by the people of Milne Bay.
