Abbot Point Stacker Reclaimer Delivery

PMG have just completed barge delivery of a new 2000T modularised Stacker Reclaimer for Abbot Point. The modules were spread out over 5 bargeloads.
The job has been planned for 12+ months, and involved a great team of professionals including NMT Global Project Logistics, Mammoet, Jumbo, and Naval Architects Australia.
The job involved loading stacker reclaimer modules onto our barge PMG183W in Townsville, lashing them down, then towing to Abbot Point (with our 24m tug Black Panther), where the modules were rolled off on SPMTs (self propelled module transporters) at the new MOF (Materials Offloading Facility) that PMG designed and constructed earlier this year. This cargo was the first use of the Abbot Point MOF and it worked very well.

The loading in Townsville was a combination of crane loading (ships cranes on the heavy lift ship), and rolling on by SPMT  at a new RORO (roll on roll off) facility built at Port of Townsville specifically for this cargo.

The barge had to be reconfigured in between between loads with all new lugs, loadspreader mats, and stools added to suit the next load. With very tight timelines trying to take advantage of a great weather window, the barge reconfiguration team worked long and hard to get the barge ready to go to meet the tight timetables.

PMG's team involved Marine, Fabrication, Logistics, Project Management, Divers, Fitters, Painters, HR and Admin all working together to make this project the great success it was.
