Whitsunday Magic Removal

In addition to the Tateyama Maru salvage, PMG have been busy in the Whitsundays with the removal of the 34m steel sailing vessel "Whitsunday Magic". This vessel had been submerged near Abel Point Marina for about 5 years, and was in an extremely poor state. The steel was heavily corroded and the internals had collapsed. The job was made extremely challenging by the fact the vessel had worked its way into the muddy seabed to a depth of around around 3.5m.

The only option was to cut the vessel up and remove it section by section. This job utilised a 5 man PMG internal commercial dive team, a 150T crawler crane, tugs, barges, as well as marine crew, construction crew, and Supervision and Project Management team.

The job was certainly a challenge, but Sam and his team worked their way through the vessel systematically and have produced a successful outcome.

All vessel parts have been removed from site by barge, and are now being unloaded at PMG's marine facility, and recycled by Simsmetal.
